This bronze statue of the President of Costa Rica in the 1930s stands at the eastern entrance of La Sabana Park. Leon Cortez Castro ruled Costa Rica from 1936 to 1940. Improvements to the monument and the surrounding plaza form part of urban restoration work being undertaken by the Municipality of San José at several points in the capital.
